History

Broadway Market was built on the Inter-Urban Rail Line in the 1940s by Fred and Ed Yentz. At first it was a dirt floor produce market. (Ed's knowledge of produce landed him a job at Gruber's and later Seaway Food Town, from where he retired as the head produce buyer.)

In the early 1950s Max Strazzula ran it as a grocery market.  In 1953, Nick Bellino, the local Pfeiffer distributor, bought and sold the store for $5,000 to his sister Mary Cusumano and her husband Vito.

Vito's children Fran and Sam ran the store until they sold it to their cousin Joey Bellino (Nick's Grandson) in 1998.  Working at the Market was the only job Fran ever had.  She ran the store from 1953 until retiring in 1998.

Joe and Peggy Bellino have now owned the store for two years and this website is just a natural progression from the Yentz Brothers dirt floor produce market.
